Ziegler Earns Certified Board Member Distinction

VIERA, FLORIDA – Andy Ziegler, Brevard Public Schools Board member, was recognized as a Certified Andy ZieglerBoard Member on November 30, 2011, in Tampa, Florida, at the Annual Joint Conference sponsored by the Florida School Boards Association.  Ziegler earned this distinction by completing a minimum of 96 hours of training in 12 areas, which focus on the governance roles and responsibilities of school board members.  The Certified Board Member Program is a voluntary training program for individual board members and is offered by the Florida School Boards Association.

Ziegler was elected to the Brevard County School Board in 2008.  He has served 20 years with the Rotary Club of Palm Bay holding numerous Board positions including President.  Ziegler graduated from the Florida Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. He is an honorary lifetime member of the Melbourne Beach Volunteer Fire Department having served with them for seven years, and he has served on the School Board’s Audit Committee as well as serving on the School Improvement Committees at Melbourne High School, Central Middle School, Meadowlane Elementary School and Port Malabar Elementary School.  Ziegler is a current member of numerous Boards of Directors including the Melbourne Regional Chamber of Commerce as well as Space Coast Early Intervention Center and Brevard Cultural Alliance.

The Certified Board Members (CBM) Program provides leadership training for school board members as they strive to enhance student learning opportunities in their communities and to advance excellence and promote equity in public education.  Training topics in the CBM Program include:  policymaking, strategic planning, school law, community involvement, advocacy for public education, diversity, employee relations, and current trends and issues.
