BPS Chooses Six Finalists for Employee of the Year

Viera – A Technology/Network Support Associate, a School Resource Officer, an Instructional Assistant, a School Age Child Care Group Leader, a Campus Monitor, and a Communications Program Coordinator have been selected as finalists for the Brevard Public Schools’ Employee of the Year (EOY) award. Each year, schools and offices have the opportunity to recognize a deserving school related employee by nominating them for district, and hopefully state honors. The finalists in alphabetical order are:

  • Ginger Blair, Communications Program Coordinator, District Communications
  • Michel Chavannes, Campus Monitor, Cocoa High
  • Deputy Michael Doyle, School Resource Officer, Hoover Middle
  • Barbara Joplin, Instructional Assistant, Sea Park Elementary
  • Roxanne Knowles, School Age Child Care Group Leader, Westside Elementary
  • Stuart Sheinman, Technology/Network Support Associate, West Melbourne Elementary School for Science

“I am very proud of these six individuals,” said Dr. Brian T. Binggeli, Superintendent. “They are wonderful representatives of the many hardworking staff members who perform critical roles in our school district.”

District-wide, 93 individuals were nominated for EOY by their school or department. A selection committee reviewed the written nominations and chose the six they believed contributed most significantly to improvements at their school sites or within the district. Binggeli made a surprise visit to each finalist’s work site to inform them of the honor. The winner will be announced at the ABC (Applauding Brevard’s Champions) Awards Gala which will be held at the Maxwell King Center on January 19. This event is hosted by the Brevard Schools Foundation.

Ginger Blair has been with the district for one year as the Communications Program Coordinator in the Office of District Communications.  Blair serves as the District Volunteer Coordinator, District Mentor Coordinator and District Business Partner Coordinator.  Additionally, she serves as the co-chair of the Parent and Community Engagement (PACE) committee.

Michel Chavannes has been a district employee for almost 12 years; all of them at Cocoa High as a Campus Monitor. Chavannes has been the Employee of the Year nominee for Cocoa High eight times since 2000 and has also been a district finalist.  His responsibilities include protecting and ensuring a safe environment for the students and staff at his school.

Deputy Michael Doyle has been the School Resource Officer at Hoover Middle School for the past three years.  He promotes public safety and enhances the quality of life both at school and at home for students, teachers and private citizens.  Additionally, Doyle coaches basketball at the school allowing him to interact with students on a different level.

Barbara Joplin is an Instructional Assistant at Sea Park Elementary. She has worked for the district for over five years, all of them at Sea Park. Joplin looks for activities, projects and books that appeal to individual student interest.  This makes Joplin’s second year of being nominated as her school’s EOY. She also volunteers with the Boy Scouts and the school’s recycling projects.

A district employee at Westside Elementary as a School Age Child Care Group Leader for only one year, Roxanne Knowles has been an active volunteer at the same school for seven years. Knowles schedules and supervises the fifth and sixth grade safety patrols at the school. She also has created a Litter Patrol program that helps to beautify the school grounds.

As a Technology/Network Support Associate at West Melbourne Elementary for five years, Stuart Sheinman supports all technology needs for his school campus. He serves as a member of his principal’s Leadership Team and has been elected by his West Melbourne Elementary School of Science colleagues for two consecutive terms as staff representative to the School Advisory Council.
