For Immediate Release: September 29, 2011 Relay For Life of Viera/Suntree Gives Cancer the Boot! VIERA, FL –The fifth annual American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Viera/Suntree will begin the 2012 Relay season with a kick-off celebration on November 6, 2011, from 4:00pm – 6:00pm. This years’ operating committee will welcome past teams, new teams, survivors, family members, and those wanting to make a difference in the fight against cancer to the Holiday Inn Viera. Please join us for food, fun, and entertainment! Relay For Life events are held overnight as individuals and teams camp out at an athletic track, park or other gathering area with the goal of keeping at least one team member on the track or pathway at all times throughout the evening. Teams do most of their fundraising prior to the event, but some teams also hold creative fundraisers at their camp sites during the event. Relay brings together friends, families, businesses, hospitals, schools, faith-based groups and people from all walks of life all aimed at furthering the American Cancer Society’s efforts to save lives by helping people stay well, by helping them get well, by finding cures and by fighting back. This years’ Viera event will be held on May 4, 2012 at Viera High School, beginning at 5:00pm. Surrounding a theme of “Give Cancer the Boot,” teams are encouraged to be as creative as they wish in promoting Relay For Life and the overall mission. “Relay is a unique opportunity for our community to come together to celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember those we’ve lost, and fight back against the disease,” said Rick Morton, Operations Chair. “Many of the participants are cancer survivors, which serve as a reminder that Brevard County is not immune to this disease. By participating in Relay, we are joining with the American Cancer Society’s efforts to “create a world with less cancer and more birthdays,” Morton added. Funds raised at Relay For Life of Viera/Suntree are enabling the American Cancer Society to impact the lives of those touched by cancer within the community. Through research, advocacy, and education we are making a difference right here in Brevard County! To RSVP for the November Kick-off Event, please contact Event Chair Susie Parente at 321-698-3656 or via email at rflvierasuntree@cfl.rr.com.
