Eau Gallie High School AFJROTC Best in Air Force MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Air Force Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (AFJROTC) from Eau Gallie High School recently brought home a 1st place trophy from the 2011 JROTC Tri-Service Leadership and Academic Bowl Championship held in Washington, D. C. The championship is an annual event that pits the finest cadets from around the world in academic competition. The competition is sponsored by the College Options Foundation which is dedicated to enriching the academic development of high school students and assisting them in preparation for higher education. Out of 884 AFJROTC units in the U.S., Europe and along the Pacific Rim, the top 16 teams met at George Mason University to determine best in Air Force. The EGHS team swept the competition going undefeated in nine grueling matches that lasted 30 minutes each. Questions covering advanced mathematics, science, English, History and Literature were used in the competition. “I am so proud of our AFJROTC students,” said EGHS principal, Jeremy Salmon. “This recognition is another example of the strength of our program, the dedication of our leadership in the program, and most importantly, the quality – determination – and competiveness of our amazing students here at Eau Gallie.” In a tri-service match between the top Air Force Team (EGHS), the top Army, and the top Navy teams, EGHS defeated the Navy team and were only 10 points less against the Army giving EGHS the 2nd place overall.
