Central Middle School Featured in the Harris Corporation
Art Gallery at the Maxwell C. King Center

WEST MELBOURNE, FLORIDA —   Central Middle School, Brevard County Public Schools, in cooperation with the Maxwell C. King Center for the Performing Arts presents  “Puppets & Pride:  A Celebration of Black History” currently showcased in the Harris Corporation Art Gallery.

This exhibit includes show stills, photo details and 3-dimensional puppet figures from three of Central’s annual Black History Month plays.  The featured works were created by 7th and 8th grade students under the guidance of drama director Anita Bradt, a teacher at Central Middle School in the Brevard County school system.

The small scale puppets featured in two of the shows are upgraded sock puppets.  Recycled basketballs were used to create the patterns for the “Big-Head” puppets and recycled materials donated by a local businessman were used to create the foam head puppets.  The technique for making the foam figures was taught at the “Wood & Strings” puppet workshop given to Brevard County School teachers at the King Center making their arrival to be displayed in the gallery a special homecoming.

For more information about “Puppets & Pride: A Celebration of Black History,” please contact Anita Bradt at 321-722-4150.  You may also contact Karen Wilson, Theater For Youth & Outreach Director at the Maxwell C. King Center for the Performing Arts at 321-433-5717.
